Concerning the gods and the fate of the humans I believe that the gods can very easily change the fates of the humans on earth. This is very easily seen when Odysseus is stuck on the island of the nymph Calypso. When Athena thinks of him she a once goes to her father Zeus asking for Odysseus’ freedom. Athena says, “Think, not one of the people whom he ruled remembers Odysseus now, that godlike man, and kindly as a father to his children. He’s left to pine on a island, racked with grief in the nymph Calypso’s house-she holds him there by force. He has no way to voyage home to his native land.” (Book 5 13-18). After hearing this Zeus sends mercury, another god to save Odysseus from Calypso. If Athena had not talked to Zeus then Odysseus might of never gotten of the island. He would of sailed right home if Poseidon had not made a missive store that almost killed Odysseus. If the gods did not alter human fate then Odysseus would have been fine and sailed all the way home without any problems. Then later on once Odysseus gets knocked off his boat by the storm made by Poseidon, Odysseus is once again saved by a god, this time Ino. If she had not change his fate and saved him Odysseus would have likely died. In conclusion I think that the gods influence human fate but because so many gods are helping or hurting Odysseus that their acts balance each other out.
