Pathway
I disagree and agree with Emma. I don’t believe it is quite that obvious how much control the Olympian gods have over the humans. With the cases of Athena and Poseidon they have certain limits on what they can do. I agree that yes the final destination of Odysseus’s fate is already planned however, the pathway to get there is most definitely paved by the gods. Poseidon can put as much torture and pain on Odysseus as he wants but cannot kill him. And Athena can protect and save him as much as she wants but cannot control if he actually makes it home or not because that would mess with his fate. Yes he can try, but even Zeus said that the fate of Odysseus cannot be changed, just like any other human’s fate. And in most eyes Zeus is seen as the highest gods, so if he can’t control fate that means none of the gods can. So for the most part I feel that the gods are in control of a lot of the journey or pathway a human takes to get to fate, but they have absolutely no power over the final destination of that person.
