Old fashioned Greek hospitality
As you all know, hospitality has been a very talked about topic of our classes. In the Odyssey, everyone treats everyone else with respect and kindness. When a stranger arrives at a home the first thing the home owner does is welcome them into the house with open arms food and a bath. In today’s culture nothing of that sort would even cross a home owners mind. I believe that in today’s society, people do not trust others they way people trusted each other in the odyssey. Because in modern society people are so influenced by violence and destruction, people have forgotten that there are good people left in the world. Though there probably was crime and violence in the times of the odyssey people weren’t exposed to it as much as they are now because the news and violent television wasn’t around. If people where as trusting as they where in the odyssey people would be much happier. Like the many people in the odyssey if we were as open and welcoming as they where people all over the world would probably be a lot happier.
